ASTROS SIGN OUTFIELDER SULLIVAN TO MINOR LEAGUE CONTRACT Bourgeois clears waivers and receives invite to Spring Training

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros announced today that the club has signed outfielder Cory Sullivan to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. The club also announced that outfielder Jason Bourgeois, who was designated for assignment on January 13, has cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple A Round Rock. He also earned an invitation to Major League Spring Training. The announcements were made by General Manager Ed Wade.

Sullivan, 30, hit .250 (34x136) with two home runs and 15 RBI in 64 games for the New York Mets last season. The left-handed hitting Sullivan started 32 games at all three positions in the Mets outfield and posted a .263 (31x118) average against right-handed pitching on the season. He has appeared in parts of five Major League seasons with Colorado (2005-08) and New York (2009) and owns a career .276 (293x1063) average with 10 home runs and 93 RBI.

Bourgeois, 28, hit .189 (7x37) in 2009 with one home run, three RBI and three steals in 24 games with Milwaukee. He played the majority of the season with Triple A Nashville, posting a .316 (134x424) average with 41 RBI and 36 steals. The Astros acquired him from Milwaukee following the 2009 season on a waiver claim on October 26. A Houston native, Bourgeois has played in two Major League seasons with Chicago-AL (2008) and Milwaukee (2009) and owns a career .200 (8x40) average.

The Astros have now invited 16 non-roster players to Major League Spring Training.
