Alejandro Morúa, formerly the program coordinator at the Houston A Plus Challenge, was named the assistant to the superintendent this month, replacing Dr. Cheryl Salyards, associate superintendent for governmental relations and communication, who retired from CFISD on June 30.
A native Houstonian, Morúa graduated from Austin High School in Houston ISD. He earned two baccalaureate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania; a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in English.
His work experiences include for-profit, non-profit, public and private arenas, as well as governmental agencies.
“Alejandro has worked directly in public education and in organizations that provide support to educational organizations,” said Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools. “He has expertise and experience in increasing community engagement, developing corporate partnerships and working on political initiatives with elected officials.”
